Navigating the Clinical Component

As the Section Head of BMT, the new director will play a critical role in the day-to-day clinical operations of the program while also setting the strategic direction. The clinical schedule is designed to be manageable, with 1:6 inpatient call rotation. Inpatient responsibilities are divided weekly, ensuring a balance between direct patient care and administrative duties. As the program continues to grow, the director will step out of regular call rotation, enabling focus on higher-level program development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Transplant Care: Oversee care for pediatric transplant patients, with an emphasis on clinical excellence and comprehensive care. The program performs approximately 50 new transplants per year treating patients up to 25 years old.
  • Experimental Therapies: Lead efforts to expand the use of CAR T-cell therapies and build the infrastructure to develop these treatments internally.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physician assistants (PAs) and pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs), who manage their own patient panels and participate in shared care.

This is a highly collaborative environment, with multiple weekly team meetings where physicians, PAs, PNPs, and other specialists discuss patient treatment approaches and program advancements.
