Position Overview

Understanding the Role

The General Surgery position at Ontario, Oregon, offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced surgeon to become part of a collaborative and supportive medical team. The role is based in a critical access hospital setting, with a focus on providing high-quality general surgery services to the local and surrounding communities. This is a full-time position that aims to support the growing surgical needs of the area, and the surgeon will work in a hospital that values patient-centered care and community involvement.

The ideal candidate will be board-certified in General Surgery with demonstrated proficiency in various surgical procedures, including endoscopies and other general surgeries suitable for a critical access hospital. The position seeks an experienced professional who can handle the rigors of the role with minimal oversight, as previous challenges involved bringing in under-experienced surgeons. Additional qualifications, such as experience in advanced laparoscopic surgeries, are highly desirable to better serve the patient population.

The surgeon will be required to maintain a flexible schedule, with expectations of sharing call duties with another full-time general surgeon once the team is fully staffed. The call schedule is anticipated to evolve into a two-week-on, two-week-off structure, though there will be flexibility in determining the final structure based on the candidate's preferences. Initially, however, call responsibilities will be greater until another surgeon is onboarded. The surgeon will report to the hospital's Vice President of Operations and be supported by a dedicated clinical and administrative team, ensuring smooth coordination of services.
