Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Your New Practice Home in Ontario's Growing Healthcare Landscape

You'll step into a purposefully designed role as a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physician with San Antonio Regional Hospital's innovative Care 4 You primary care initiative, where the traditional boundaries between urgent and primary care blend seamlessly to serve Ontario's vibrant, diverse community. This isn't just another primary care position – it's an opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility that opened just two and a half years ago, where you'll have the autonomy to shape your practice while being supported by an established healthcare system.

Your practice will serve as a vital healthcare anchor for Ontario's underserved population, where the need for accessible, culturally competent primary care has never been greater. The hospital's service area encompasses a richly diverse, predominantly Latino community where 60-70% of your patients will be Spanish-speaking, creating an environment where bilingual skills translate directly into meaningful patient connections and improved health outcomes. You'll fill a critical gap in this region where solo practitioners have dominated for decades, often with weeks-long wait times, leaving many residents without consistent primary care access.

  • Practice Setting: Modern, purpose-built medical facility co-located with San Antonio Regional Hospital's urgent care center, offering seamless care coordination and immediate access to diagnostic services including on-site X-ray
  • Required Qualifications: MD or DO degree, California medical license (or eligibility), Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine, DEA registration
  • Preferred Skills: Spanish language proficiency highly valued given the community demographics; comfort with diverse patient populations across all age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM – a true outpatient lifestyle with no weekend obligations, allowing you to maintain the work-life balance that's increasingly rare in today's healthcare environment
  • Patient Volume: Starting at a comfortable 8-15 patients daily during your ramp-up period, gradually building to 20-24 patients per day as the practice matures – a pace that allows for meaningful patient interactions without the burnout of assembly-line medicine
  • Position Type: This is a new position, not a replacement, giving you the opportunity to build your patient panel from the ground up and establish your own practice culture
  • Reporting Structure: You'll be employed through San Antonio Regional Medical Group with direct support from experienced leadership who understand the unique challenges of building a primary care practice

Building Your Practice in a Supportive Environment

Unlike the isolated experience of many primary care physicians, you'll practice within a collaborative ecosystem where the urgent care team handles the acute walk-ins and after-hours needs, allowing you to focus on comprehensive, relationship-based care during regular business hours. The facility's newest addition means you'll have access to dedicated exam rooms, a full procedure room for minor office procedures, and the infrastructure to support efficient practice operations from day one.

This position represents more than just another primary care opportunity – it's your chance to establish yourself as a cornerstone provider in a community hungry for accessible, quality healthcare, where your impact will be measured not just in patient encounters but in lives transformed through consistent, compassionate care.
