Downtown Bemidji is situated along beautiful Lake Bemidji, which also plays host to Lake Bemidji State Park, a golf club, and numerous resorts. Professional summer stock theater takes place at the Chief Theater, a former movie theater which now houses the Paul Bunyan Playhouse. Other small venues for live theater exist in the downtown area. The city has a four-year college, Bemidji State University, whose men's hockey team has won numerous national titles in NCAA Division II and has competed well in its move to Division I, making it to the Frozen Four a few years ago. The team plays in the Sanford Center, which opened in 2010 and features the arena as well as a conference center.”
