A Well-Balanced GI Practice with Procedural Focus

Your clinical practice at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital will combine the intellectual challenges of inpatient gastroenterology consultation with the procedural aspects many specialists find most rewarding. Each morning from 9 am to noon, you'll perform elective colonoscopies in a state-of-the-art endoscopy suite, working with dedicated support staff who understand the importance of efficiency and quality. Afternoons will transition to inpatient consultations, allowing you to apply your expertise to a diverse range of gastroenterological conditions while collaborating with colleagues across specialties.

The 7-on/7-off schedule creates a distinct rhythm to your practice, with intensive weeks of clinical engagement balanced by equal time completely away from professional responsibilities. During your active weeks, you'll serve as the primary gastroenterology resource for the hospital, building valuable relationships with hospitalists, surgeons, and other specialists while delivering consultation for patients across the care spectrum.

  • Dedicated morning procedural time ensures consistent utilization of your endoscopic skills while maintaining predictable daily structure
  • Diverse inpatient consultations encompassing the full spectrum of gastroenterology from GI bleeding and inflammatory bowel disease to pancreatitis and liver disorders
  • Minimal night call disruption through the hospitalist rotation system, creating sustainable work patterns without chronic sleep deprivation
  • ERCP and advanced endoscopy opportunities available but not required, allowing you to incorporate these skills if desired
  • Epic EHR system with full integration across inpatient and outpatient settings, reducing documentation friction and enhancing care coordination
  • Strong referral network with rapid practice building through established primary care relationships and marketing support

This balanced clinical model delivers what many gastroenterologists seek: the ability to maintain procedural skills while engaging in complex consultative medicine, all within a schedule that prevents burnout and supports personal wellness. Unlike many practices that promise work-life balance but fail to deliver, this position's structured hospitalist schedule ensures genuine time away, allowing you to practice at the top of your license without sacrificing your health and personal relationships.
