St. Johns Health is seeking to expand its mental health services by hiring a full-time adult psychiatrist to join their established and successful Child and Adolescent program. This position is vital to meeting the growing demand for mental health services in the community. The new psychiatrist will primarily focus on medication management and is expected to handle a patient load of 10-12 patients per day. The role will be located in the Physician Office Building (POB) behind the hospital, providing easy access for both the physician and patients.
The work schedule is expected to be Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with no call duties or inpatient responsibilities, which allows for a balanced work-life dynamic. Additionally, the facility is open to offering a four-day workweek to provide greater flexibility and work satisfaction.
The introduction of this position marks a significant development as the hospital has never had an employed Psychiatrist before. Currently, Psychiatric services in the community are provided by three private psychiatrists and several psychiatric nurse practitioners (PSY NPs), who operate on a cash-pay basis. The facility uses the Cerner EMR system, ensuring streamlined and efficient patient record management. Furthermore, TelePsych services are available for emergency department visits, enhancing the ability to provide timely psychiatric consultations, without our new provider having any ED responsibilities.
There is also an openness to starting advanced treatment options such as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which could further elevate the standard of care provided. The psychiatrist will be supported by a registered nurse (RN) and front desk staff, ensuring a well-rounded and efficient clinical practice.
