Position Overview

Hematology / Oncology Overview

This will be a full-time employed position with UCHealth, and the incoming provider will practice solely at Regional West in Scottsbluff, NE. It will be a standard Hematology/Oncology position based in the Oncology clinic on the 1st floor of the hospital, directly below the infusion clinic. There are plans to move the clinic space to the 2nd floor, so all cancer services are together.

The incoming provider will be able to take this well-established practice and make it their own. They will have a full-support staff, including an outstanding team of OCN-trained nurses and a Nurse Practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in Cancer Centers.

The work week will be 4-days per week. Ideally, the incoming provider would have 3 days in clinic and one day of outreach.

Dr. Bjorling is the only full-time oncologist in Scottsbluff. He sees 18-20 patients per day in clinic (6-8 new patients per week), 3 days per week. He does one day of outreach at 5 locations throughout western Nebraska. The outreach locations are in Chadron (98 miles north), Alliance (53-miles East), Bridgeport (37-miles southeast), Sidney (77-miles south), and Kimball (45-miles south). He sees 15-20 patients per day at each outreach site. Chadron and Sydney provide chemotherapy to patients. Dr. Bjorling sees patients at 2-3 locations on each outreach day. The incoming provider does not need to follow the model that Dr. Bjorling has created.

We expect the outreach to continue, however Regional West/UCHealth will partner with the new hire to determine what outreach looks like. If the new provider does not want to do outreach, Regional West and UCHealth are amendable to that.

Why Are We Hiring?

Previously, there were two oncologists in Scottsbluff. Dr. Leconte left in early 2020. She and her husband were living apart, so she took a position in Florida to be closer to him and her family. We are looking to add one Hem/Oncologist immediately to replace Dr. Bjorling when he retires and add a second Oncologist in 2023 to satisfy the needs of the community.

Call

There will be no night call required for this position. The hospitalist team will handle all admissions. The incoming providers will share daytime call with Sue, 1:2 and only see patients during the day for consultations. The provider will not be required to participate in the call rotation at any UCHealth locations in Colorado. They will have full professional and ancillary support from the UCHealth network of hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers.
