Position Overview

Understanding the Role

UT Regional One Physicians (UTROP) is recruiting a Maternal Fetal Medicine physician to lead the fetal side of its academic MFM division in Memphis, Tennessee. Your practice would center on advanced obstetric ultrasound, fetal echocardiography, and genetics, with a defined pathway to Director of Ultrasound.

The division is the high-risk obstetric referral center for the Mid-South. Regional One receives many of the region's most complex obstetric patients through transfers from other hospitals. The program has a long history of strength in fetal imaging, and this position is the lead hire to rebuild it.

Why This Position Exists

The division is separating its fetal and maternal leadership, with a dedicated physician focused on each side.

The program wants to restore and grow its fetal diagnostic and ultrasound services.

The division is adding experienced faculty to mentor early-career physicians and fellows.

UTROP is rebuilding referral relationships with community OB/GYN groups across the region.

Your Role

Perform and interpret routine obstetric ultrasound, Level II targeted scans, and fetal echocardiography

Evaluate abnormal fetal findings and provide genetics-focused consultation

Participate in the fetal center clinic at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, held two days per week

Teach OB/GYN residents, MFM fellows, and medical students

Help guide the program's imaging direction, including first-trimester ultrasound

If you want to keep a maternal component in your practice, the division is open to it. Maternal MFM work includes call.

Leadership Pathway: Director of Ultrasound

The long-term plan is for this physician to become Director of Ultrasound. Timing depends on your experience. A physician who has already led a fetal or ultrasound program could move into the role sooner.

A newer graduate would be developed toward the role over time. In either case, the transition from current ultrasound leadership is planned in stages.
