Comprehensive Care at Women and Children Clinic: An Overview of Responsibilities and Facilities

  • Primary responsibilities at the Women and Children Clinic in Ontario located just a few minutes from the hospital
  • Balanced practice, approximately 50/50 OB and GYN 
  • 3-4 days in brand-new state-of-the-art women’s clinic and 1-2 days in the OR
  • 23 total exam rooms between OB and PEDS, 2 procedure rooms and 1 consult room for NST’s and IV hydration 
  • Up to 2 dedicated MAs per OB and recently added PA 
  • 2 experienced sonographers 
  • Triage team of 3 RN’s and LPN who handle incoming calls, med refills, and patient questions 
  • 2 procedure rooms for GYN surgeries
  • Community Health Workers who assist with transportation, clothing, shopping, food vouchers, employment, and other patient needs
  • Dr. Peavy – FMOB – Doing all OB in clinic and C-section assist in OR
  • Seeing 20-25 low to moderate risk patients a day in clinic
  • Scheduled C-sections before clinic hours
  • Healthy payor mix – 1/3 commercial, 1/3 Medicare, 1/3 Medicaid, 10% self-paid
  • Robot available in Caldwell if necessary  

Hospital 

  • St. Alphonsus has 5 labor and delivery rooms, 1 pre-op and recovery room, 1 surgical suite, 4 post-partum rooms and a level I nursery   
  • 17 RN’s and multiple CNA’s – very experienced nursing staff
  • 5 CRNA’s with 1 on call and 1 back up 
  • Transfer out pre 35 weeks to Boise or Nampa
  • MFM consults via phone and available in Boise 
  • Averaging 30-40 deliveries per month – used to be double and plenty of volume to get back to that
  • A big portion of the population speaks Spanish, so they have 6 interpreters on staff and a virtual team if necessary
  • The current C-section rate is approximately 20%
  • EPIC EMR with remote access 
  • 2 Hospitalists doing the admitting 
  • 49 Bed Acute Care Hospital / Level IV Trauma Center
  • 1300 ER visits per month / 40-50 patients per day / 15 bed ER department / 6 ICU Beds 

Call Schedule 

The call schedule is 1:4 with 7 days of call required. VFHC will compensate $500 per call shift and provider has the option for more call that will be compensated by the hospital. You would need to live within 25 minutes of St. Alphonsus for call purposes. There are 2 separate call rooms for male and female providers with lockers and restrooms.
