As Vice Chair for Perioperative Medicine and Director of the Center for Perioperative Optimization, you will hold a uniquely influential role that bridges executive leadership, academic advancement, and clinical presence. This position was intentionally created to drive innovation and set new benchmarks in perioperative care, making it an opportunity not just to join a program but to define its national reputation.
Your leadership will shape a department that serves as Georgia’s only public academic health center, providing care for a broad and diverse population across Augusta and the surrounding Georgia–South Carolina region. The institution’s reach extends well beyond its local catchment, positioning you to impact both patient care and professional practice standards at a state and national level.
Unlike roles that require a choice between administrative authority and patient-facing practice, this position has been carefully structured to integrate both. Three days each week will be focused on directing and expanding the Center for Perioperative Optimization, giving you the authority to develop evidence-based care pathways, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, and embed AI-driven solutions into perioperative workflows. One day per week, you will remain active in the operating room, ensuring that your leadership remains clinically grounded and relevant. The fifth day is protected for administrative and academic responsibilities, giving you the space to lead scholarly work, mentor rising physicians, and advance your own academic profile.
Your leadership presence will also be felt in high-level departmental strategy, as you will report directly to the Chair of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine. This reporting structure ensures that your ideas and initiatives translate directly into action at the highest levels of the organization. At the same time, your visibility will extend beyond Augusta as you represent the department nationally, positioning Wellstar MCG Health as a thought leader in perioperative optimization.
This is a role for a physician-leader ready to shape the evolution of perioperative medicine while modeling the balance of clinical excellence, academic productivity, and administrative vision. It represents the chance to build a legacy at the intersection of patient care and medical innovation.
