The Pediatrician at YKHC plays a pivotal role in Primary & Preventative Care. Following guidelines set by both YKHC and the respected American Academy of Pediatrics, this position aims to ensure the best possible outcomes for the pediatric community within the YK Delta.
Acute Intervention is another vital facet. Pediatricians here diagnose and manage emergent findings related to various disease processes. This includes conditions ranging from pediatric hypertension and diabetes to ENT complications and skin conditions.
When it comes to Chronic Care Management, the Pediatrician will be responsible for a substantial cohort of chronic pediatric patients (CPP). This includes catering to around 1,200 chronically ill children and over 1,000 healthy ones, the majority being of Yup’ik Alaskan descent. With common cases involving conditions such as asthma, ADHD, and congenital heart diseases, the role demands collaboration, both in-person during Bethel's specialty clinics and through tele-consultations with subspecialists.
Furthermore, the Pediatrician will have the chance to partake in Special Initiatives at YKHC. This involvement enhances the overall pediatric care quality and includes initiatives such as the immunizations task force and the Synagis program.
It's essential to be aware that at YKHC, all pediatric appointments are meticulously managed by a dedicated scheduling department and healthcare management team. While consistency is sought, unforeseen variables like weather conditions or unexpected staff absences can lead to schedule adjustments.
