Empowering Minds: Education and Schools in Our Community

Waxahachie is served by the Waxahachie Independent School District (WISD), which has earned a strong reputation for its commitment to academic excellence and student success. The district provides education from Pre-K through 12th grade, offering a wide range of schools and programs to suit the needs of all students. WISD operates 13 elementary schools, including Max H. Simpson Elementary, Margaret L. Felty Elementary, and Northside Elementary, all of which provide a solid foundation for early education. Pre-kindergarten programs are available at select campuses, ensuring that the youngest learners have access to quality education in a nurturing environment.

For middle school, students can attend Howard Junior High or Eddie Finley Junior High, where they will find a focus on both academic and social development, with options for honors and advanced courses. At the high school level, Waxahachie High School stands out as the district’s flagship institution. Waxahachie High offers a comprehensive curriculum, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, dual credit programs with local colleges, and specialized pathways through the Global High School Early College Program, which allows students to earn college credits while completing their high school diploma.

WISD is also known for its extensive extracurricular offerings, including award-winning fine arts programs, competitive athletics, and robust STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) opportunities. With several schools receiving “A” ratings for academic performance, the district is a top choice for families who prioritize education.

In addition to public schools, Waxahachie offers several private and charter school options, such as Waxahachie Preparatory Academy and First Christian Day School, providing families with alternatives to meet their children’s individual learning needs.

Colleges
For higher education, Waxahachie is home to Navarro College’s Waxahachie campus, which offers associate degree programs, vocational training, and dual enrollment opportunities for high school students through its partnership with WISD. Navarro College serves as a local hub for continuing education and professional development, with programs in nursing, business, technology, and more.

Waxahachie is also home to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), a private Christian university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. SAGU specializes in fields such as theology, business, education, and social sciences. The university is well-known for its vibrant campus life, spiritual development programs, and athletic teams.

With Waxahachie’s educational offerings ranging from quality public schools to higher education institutions, families and professionals alike can find a well-rounded, supportive learning environment for themselves and their children.
