A Practice That Blends Primary Care and Occupational Health

Your clinical work in Winnemucca will reflect the diverse needs of this community, allowing you to practice broad-spectrum family medicine while also developing skills in occupational health. Patients include gold miners and their families, as well as the wider rural community, creating a unique mix of primary care, walk-in visits, and occupational screenings.

You’ll see a manageable patient volume of approximately 12–14 patients per day, with nurse practitioners handling much of the routine workload and you focusing on acute needs, oversight, and complex cases. The practice is structured to respect your time, with a dedicated administrative hour each day for chart reviews and provider support.

The clinic operates Monday through Friday, with walk-in visits offered in the mornings and evenings to ensure community access. Nurse practitioners cover these walk-in blocks, while you support as needed, particularly on Mondays and during provider PTO. You’ll also provide oversight of occupational medicine services, including pre-employment physicals and specialized screenings such as silicosis evaluations.

  • Patient population: All ages, with strong representation of working families and pediatric patients for physicals, well-child checks, and acute visits
  • Clinical services: Family medicine, diabetes management, women’s health, minor procedures (biopsies, sutures, joint injections), occupational health exams, and vaccinations
  • Walk-in coverage: Limited, primarily supported by NPs, with MD backup as needed
  • Technology: EPIC EMR system with training support to maximize efficiency
  • Support services: On-site lab, radiology (X-ray), behavioral health (LCSW), nutrition services, and physical therapy
  • Referral network: Access to Humboldt General Hospital less than one mile away, with specialists traveling in from Reno when needed

This balance of family medicine and occupational health gives you the chance to expand your skills, build relationships with patients across generations, and practice in a setting where your clinical judgment carries significant impact.
