Comprehensive Pediatric Anesthesia with Cardiac Focus

Your clinical practice at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia will immerse you in the full spectrum of pediatric anesthesia, with a strong emphasis on congenital cardiac care. You will manage both routine and complex cases, balancing high-acuity cardiac surgeries with general pediatric procedures in a dynamic and supportive environment.

On any given week, you may provide anesthesia for a neonatal heart repair in the morning and then oversee general pediatric OR or non-operating room anesthesia in the afternoon. The current case mix is approximately 30% pediatric cardiac and 70% general pediatric anesthesia, but with anticipated surgical growth, you can expect to see the cardiac side expand toward a 50/50 balance or more.

Your role will extend beyond the OR, collaborating closely with pediatric cardiologists, surgeons, and intensivists in perioperative planning and post-op ICU care. You’ll also mentor residents and fellows, helping to shape the next generation of anesthesiologists in a collegial academic setting.

  • Diverse case mix including AV canal repairs, Glenn and Fontan procedures, ASD/VSD repairs, coarctation repairs, and neonatal congenital cardiac surgeries
  • Active involvement in pediatric cardiac catheterization cases (~100 annually) in addition to ~30–40 surgical cases per year, with clear growth trajectory
  • Supported by pediatric cardiac-trained CRNAs and anesthesia assistants within a strong care team model
  • Manageable call structure: one week of pediatric cardiac call every three weeks, followed by two post-call recovery days
  • Advanced technology at your disposal, including GE Datex Ohmeda Aisys CS2 ET Control systems, video laryngoscopes, and one-lung ventilation capacity
  • EMR: Epic | Scheduling: Qgenda
  • Academic engagement through resident and fellow teaching, didactic sessions, and lectures
