Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Lead the Future of Cardiac Critical Care

At Wellstar MCG Health in Augusta, Georgia, you will step into a role at the intersection of high-acuity patient care, academic medicine, and innovation. As a fellowship-trained Critical Care Anesthesiologist with a focus on adult cardiac intensive care, you will be central to the care of patients recovering from some of the most complex cardiac surgeries performed in the Southeast. Your daily practice will revolve around leading care in the Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) and Surgical ICU (SICU), shaping outcomes for patients who rely on your expertise in post-operative management, advanced hemodynamics, and lifesaving technologies like ECMO and VAD support.

This position answers a growing regional need for highly skilled cardiac critical care anesthesiologists. Augusta and its surrounding areas serve as a referral hub for advanced cardiac surgery, meaning you’ll play a vital role in supporting both the hospital’s mission and the broader community’s access to specialized critical care. Unlike positions where intensivists are spread thin, here you’ll be part of a dedicated program committed to expanding anesthesia intensivist coverage and standardizing protocols for excellence in cardiac perioperative care.

You will also enjoy the professional fulfillment of blending direct patient care with academic engagement. This is an environment where you’re not only practicing medicine but actively shaping the next generation of anesthesiologists, fellows, and advanced practice providers through teaching, mentorship, and research.
