Hematology Oncology
Hematology Oncology
You'll join a well-established team of oncology professionals led by Dr. Bailey, the system medical director for oncology, who brings both local expertise and fellowship training from the University of Kentucky. Based in Hazard but providing coverage across the system, Dr. Bailey serves as an excellent resource for clinical consultation and understands the unique challenges and opportunities of practicing oncology in this region. At the Hazard location, you'll work alongside one other medical oncologist, creating a collegial two-physician practice that allows for collaboration, coverage, and professional support without the isolation often experienced in single-provider settings.
The current staffing model across ARH's oncology locations demonstrates the system's commitment to growth and physician support. Most locations maintain one medical oncologist, with Hazard designed to support three physicians at full capacity—a testament to both the patient volume and the health system's investment in comprehensive cancer care. The recent departure of Dr. Moka has created the current opening and highlighted the importance of restoring full staffing to maintain optimal patient care and physician work-life balance. Your clinical efficiency will be enhanced by working with nurse practitioners who understand oncology workflows and can assist with both routine follow-ups and complex case management. At Hazard, the team recently expanded to include a second APP, reflecting the growing patient volume and commitment to providing comprehensive support for physician productivity. The nursing teams across all locations bring significant experience in oncology care, with all infusion nurses maintaining required chemotherapy certifications and many having developed deep expertise over years of specialized practice.
The support structure extends beyond direct clinical care to include patient navigators who help coordinate complex treatment plans and ensure patients can successfully navigate the healthcare system. This infrastructure allows you to focus on clinical decision-making and patient care while knowing that the logistics of treatment coordination are being handled by experienced professionals who understand the unique challenges faced by patients in rural and semi-rural settings.
The collegial environment fostered by this experienced team creates an atmosphere where physicians can thrive professionally while maintaining the work-life balance that drew them away from high-pressure academic or large group settings. Your colleagues understand the importance of sustainable practice patterns and mutual support, creating a foundation for both excellent patient care and long-term physician satisfaction.
