“First off, we're a single hospital system. That's unusual these days. We're one of five remaining in the Commonwealth. We're very proud of that. Our mission is community-based care. So, you focus on the true needs of the community
We have no debt, literally no debt. We paid off our last mortgage payment on the hospital couple of years ago. Money in the banks to rebuild one time over. And we have enough money to withstand being out of any type of revenue stream for about 350 days with repetitive cash. So, because of that, we don't need a capital partner. During COVID many organizations were either cutting back laying off or lowering, or slashing contracts. We didn't do any of that. We didn't lay off on furlough.
A lot of organizations' culture changes as you probably are aware because of financial challenges. So hopefully our culture doesn't change because of that, because we don't have a reason for it to. We are still in that homey, friendly, and collaborative environment. I don't know if you've experienced it when he walked me through but people smiling so that's another attractive thing for providers.
We are greatly appreciative of the training program and across the EPA folks that come from there who don't want to remain in the academic setting.
It's really about the people that want to be in this type of culture, this type of environment. Huge amount. I don't think any of our providers would say that they will, you know, for anything they want to see or do. So yeah, that's so our medical treatment. We are a multi-specialty Medical Group.
We have about 230 Total providers 1/3 of those are advanced practice providers. So, APPS, PAS, NPS, CRNA is assumed to be nurse midwives and we have 12 primary care practices scattered geographically through both our primary and our secondary service areas. Our primary service area is what we call the saw, which is in Augusta in Waynesboro. It's about 125,000 folks, secondary service area extends up to the Rock Bridge and counties into the areas of like Harrisonburg and then down south into areas like the University of Lexington. We don't grow for growth's sake, we grow the community's needs so if a practice is providing care and a community that's done with a high degree of quality, just to help stands back and supports, we're not in the business of active eating. We do not have any other local GI practices in the area, and we don't have any other independent years to come here. It's all employed.”
