The clinical environment at BSA Hospital is distinguished by its comprehensive, patient-focused care in both Hematology and Oncology. Providers manage a balanced caseload comprising 60% oncology and 40% hematology patients, with opportunities to focus on specialized areas such as leukemia, advanced hematologic disorders, and robust management of benign conditions. The program encourages specialization and growth, fostering an atmosphere of professional advancement while addressing the diverse needs of the patient population.
The scope of services includes chemotherapy, radiation oncology, oncologic surgical treatments, and diagnostic hematology, with support for advanced cases such as Myelodysplastic Syndrome and chronic leukemia. Providers have access to cutting-edge resources, including two Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, a high-dose rate treatment room, and in-house labs offering rapid diagnostics like CBC, CMP, and tumor markers. Plans are underway to expand imaging capabilities with a third PET/CT scanner, ensuring continuous service reliability for patients who often travel great distances for care.
Physicians work within a state-of-the-art facility, the Harrington Cancer Center, which boasts a modern 50,000-square-foot space designed to enhance both patient and provider experiences. Tumor boards convene twice weekly, fostering collaboration between specialties, including pathology, surgery, and radiation oncology, to ensure comprehensive treatment planning. Infusion services are facilitated by a 38-chair center with additional private rooms, supported by a team of fully certified RNs.
Call responsibilities are consult-only, with a manageable 1:5 schedule. Physicians round on their own patients, maintaining continuity of care and fostering strong provider-patient relationships. Each provider is supported by a dedicated RN and MA, allowing for high patient volumes and efficient clinic operations. Physicians currently manage 20–40 patients per day based on individual preferences and schedules.
Clinical support services extend beyond standard care, with psychiatry, social work, and therapy integrated into the program to address patients’ holistic needs. Providers are also encouraged to engage with clinical trials, supported by a team of three dedicated research RNs. This involvement offers an additional avenue for professional growth while contributing to the advancement of medical science.
BSA Hospital’s EMR system, Epic, ensures streamlined documentation and communication across teams, and the institution is exploring AI tools to further optimize charting efficiency. This investment in technology underscores the hospital’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in patient care.
The clinical environment at BSA Hospital offers a comprehensive, well-supported practice setting that allows providers to thrive professionally while delivering exceptional, multidisciplinary care to the patients they serve.
