Healthcare System Overview

An In-Depth Look into the Healthcare System

Central Peninsula General Hospital (CPH) is the primary full-service acute care hospital serving the central Kenai Peninsula. With 63 licensed beds and more than 100 physicians and allied medical staff, CPH delivers a broad range of specialty and surgical services to a regional population that spans a large geographic area of south-central Alaska. The hospital has operated continuously since its community-founded origins and has grown into one of the most well-resourced facilities in rural Alaska, with recent facility investments that reflect a long-term commitment to the region.

Ownership and Governance

CPH operates under a lease agreement with the Kenai Peninsula Borough, which owns the physical assets. The hospital is managed by Central Peninsula General Hospital, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Governance is handled by an 11-member volunteer Board of Directors drawn from professional, business, and community leaders within the service area. All financial resources beyond operating expenses are reinvested into technology, patient services, and facility improvements.

Facility and Infrastructure

The hospital campus includes two main towers. The original Mountain Tower was built in 2007, and the River Tower, which houses the physician clinics, was completed in 2017. Together they provide a modern, well-maintained environment for both patients and providers. The main lobby regularly serves as the venue for community events including the hospital's annual foundation fundraiser.
