Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Central Peninsula General Hospital is recruiting a full-time, hospital-employed OB/GYN to join Central Peninsula Women's Health in Soldotna, Alaska. The practice currently has one employed OB/GYN who is planning to retire within the next few years, and the hospital is actively working to bring in a physician who can overlap with her and be trained up on the community's specific patient population, referral relationships, and clinical expectations before she steps away. This is a mentored succession role with strong institutional support and an established patient base ready for a new physician.

Why This Position Exists

The peninsula's OB/GYN coverage is held together by a small number of providers, most of whom are approaching retirement age. The hospital's sole employed OB/GYN, who has been in practice here for nearly a decade, has indicated she has approximately three to five years remaining. Two independent community OB/GYNs also hold privileges at the hospital; one is over 65 and managing call obligations that could end at any time, and the other splits her time across Soldotna, Homer, and Anchorage. The hospital's goal is to bring in a physician with enough runway to build a full independent practice before the departing physician retires, and to establish a more stable, hospital-controlled OB/GYN service line for the long term.
