With clinics located in both Kenai and Soldotna, Central Peninsula Family Practice and Pediatrics provides patient-centered care to individuals of all ages in the Kenai Peninsula community. We practice preventive medicine, treat most acute illnesses and help patients effectively manage chronic medical conditions. We encourage our patients to partner with us in making health care choices that best fit their unique needs.
Our family physicians specialize in family medicine, providing a broad spectrum of outstanding patient care for families across the peninsula. Our pediatricians specialize in pediatric care, helping manage the physical, mental and emotional well-being of infants, children and adolescents. Central Peninsula Internal Medicine (CPIM) was established in 1991 by Dr. William J. Kelley with a goal of providing quality medical care to clients on the Kenai Peninsula. The practice has grown with the central Peninsula community it serves and now includes six physicians, two certified nurse practitioners and a first-rate professional support staff. Each of our physicians is board certified in internal medicine, and our nurse practitioners are nationally licensed and certified. All of our medical professionals enjoy strong relationships with Central Peninsula Hospital, other Alaskan medical institutions and medical centers outside of the state of Alaska.
The hospitalists at Central Peninsula Hospital are employed by The Alaska Hospitalist Group. They are a private group of intensivists, internists and family practitioners serving Providence Alaska Medical Center, St. Elias Specialty Hospital, Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and Central Peninsula Hospital.
The basic schedule is going to be 3 weeks on/3 weeks off, but they can accommodate 2 On/2 Off if it is more desirable. We are looking at the need for a daytime hospitalist, 7am – 7pm and the schedule is Monday – Sunday. The normal staffing is to have 2 daytime hospitalists and 1 nocturnist on staff every day.
The hospitalist do basic admissions and discharges, and round on 25-40 patients a day combined. We do cover the ICU, though there is an E-ICU through Providence for additional support and we do not do procedures, just vent management.

Since the beginning, The Alaska Hospitalist Group, LLC has been unified by two main goals: to improve the outcomes of hospitalized patients by dedicating physicians to focus on their inpatient care, and to allow ourselves enough time off to enjoy the amazing recreational opportunities that drew us to Anchorage, Alaska in the first place. We have managed to keep true to these goals while we have grown, focusing a great deal of effort in recruiting capable and like-minded (though diverse) physicians.
In 2002, Drs. Bateman, Lestina, and Shearn founded The Alaska Hospitalist Group (TAHG), the first hospitalist group in the state of Alaska. Currently, The Alaska Hospitalist Group cares for a variety of patients at a number of facilities in Alaska, including Providence Alaska Medical Center, St. Elias Specialty Hospital, Central Peninsula Hospital, and Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. We have a partnership with a number of private practices throughout the city, as well as the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Clinic, and the Alaska Department of Corrections. We also care for a number of veterans, active-duty personnel, their dependents, and Alaska Natives when they require care at one of the private hospitals. The Alaska Hospitalist Group provides medical consultation for a wide variety of surgical services. Finally, we admit a number of unassigned patients, including visitors as well as those without established local physicians (including patients from remote parts of Alaska).
Our staffing model includes multiple hospitalist services at Providence Alaska Medical Center, St. Elias Specialty Hospital, Central Peninsula Hospital, and Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Our “swing shift” rotation covers admissions and new consults during the day. We offer flexible block scheduling, working week blocks. Night shifts can be filled individually or in blocks, depending on physician preference.
