Position Overview

Understanding the Role

The Family Medicine position at Coal County General Hospital (CCGH) in Coalgate, Oklahoma, presents a distinctive and fulfilling opportunity for physicians passionate about rural healthcare. As a critical member of a 20-bed Critical Access Hospital, the Family Medicine physician will be instrumental in providing comprehensive care to the Coalgate community and neighboring areas. This role covers a broad spectrum of healthcare services, including traditional outpatient care, inpatient hospital responsibilities, and oversight of nursing home patients, while maintaining a strong supervisory presence across multiple facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inpatient Care: Conduct daily rounds on fewer than six patients, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of telemedicine integration for virtual consultations in the future. The physician may also return for additional visits depending on patient needs.
  • Outpatient Clinics: Split time between the Coalgate and Atoka clinics, working two days per week at each location. These clinics are transitioning to scheduled appointments, though a significant portion of visits are currently walk-ins.
  • Administrative Duties: On the fifth day, focus on non-clinical tasks such as chart reviews, APP supervision, and quarterly nursing home visits. This day is reserved for professional services rather than direct patient care.
  • Emergency Room Support: While primary ER coverage is managed by APPs, the physician will occasionally consult with the ER to accept patients or provide necessary guidance.

Supervisory Role:

The Family Medicine physician will oversee and provide full supervision for one APP and Medicaid supervision for all other staff members. This role requires strong leadership to ensure the smooth implementation of patient care improvements and operational efficiencies.

Flexibility and Commitment:

The position offers a flexible schedule tailored to the needs of the community, making it ideal for family-oriented individuals. However, a strong commitment to the role’s diverse responsibilities and the ability to manage a variety of healthcare settings are essential.

Qualifications:

  • Board Eligibility and Certification: The position requires board eligibility in Family Medicine. Board certification is highly preferred but not mandatory, provided the candidate can bill Medicaid and Medicare.
  • Experience and Communication: Coal County General Hospital seeks a driven, flexible, and excellent communicator. This role is suitable for both seasoned practitioners and new graduates who are ready to make a meaningful impact in a rural healthcare environment.

Coal County General Hospital values a team-oriented approach and is committed to fostering a supportive environment where physicians can thrive. This position is not only a chance to deliver high-quality care but also to be part of a community dedicated to improving health outcomes for its residents.
