Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Touro University Medical Group (TUMG) is recruiting a full-time urologist to join its practice in Stockton, California. This is a growth position that adds to an established and expanding academic urology group. The physician will see patients at the TUMG clinic, located directly across the street from Dignity Health St. Joseph's Medical Center, and perform procedures at the hospital using one of two robotic platforms. Stockton and the surrounding San Joaquin Valley represent a high-demand market for urology services with limited regional competition, and the group has consistent referral volume with significant room to grow.

TUMG operates as a private academic medical practice affiliated with Touro University California. The new physician will hold a core faculty appointment and contribute to the education of urology residents and medical students. This model provides a full clinical practice alongside meaningful academic engagement, without the administrative burden of a traditional academic position.

A standout feature of this role is a structured leadership pathway. The current Program Director plans to transition over the next five years, and TUMG is actively building toward that succession. The right candidate has a clear track to the Program Director role, which carries an additional stipend and a structure of approximately one-third administrative and two-thirds clinical time.

Why This Position Exists

Urology demand in the Stockton and San Joaquin Valley region significantly exceeds current capacity. Most highly complex cases are currently being sent out of the area, which represents direct, immediate clinical volume for a new provider. The urology residency program launched in 2021 and is in an active growth phase, creating the need for additional subspecialty-trained core faculty. This is an opportunity to build a busy surgical practice, contribute to a developing residency, and position for a Program Director role in a high-need, low-competition market.

Competition

There is one competing hospital in Stockton: Dameron Hospital, a 200-bed facility operated by Adventist Health. A Kaiser facility also operates nearby, though St. Joseph's maintains a collegial working relationship with that organization. Any other competition is in Sacramento or the Bay Area, roughly 45 to 90 minutes away.
