The Gynecologic Oncology team at Eisenhower's Lucy Curci Cancer Center is built around a long-tenured, experienced physician who has spent more than two decades developing the program. The team operates with a collaborative, patient-centered approach and maintains an active academic connection through UC San Diego Health.

Physician Team

Mark C. Genesen, MD Gynecologic Oncology | Gynecology Eisenhower Medical Associates

Dr. Genesen is board certified in Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics & Gynecology. He has been on staff at Eisenhower for 26 years and has spent his career building and leading the GYN Oncology program in the Coachella Valley. His clinical focus includes minimally invasive and radical surgical techniques, robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci system, and more than 25 years of participation in NCI gynecologic oncology clinical trials. He trained at Vanderbilt University, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and LAC+USC Medical Center.

Steven C. Plaxe, MD Gynecologic Oncology | Gynecology UC San Diego Health | Director, Lucy Curci Cancer Center

Dr. Plaxe serves as Director of the Lucy Curci Cancer Center and holds a dual appointment as Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and Professor of Reproductive Medicine at UC San Diego. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Committee of NRG Oncology. U.S. News & World Report has ranked him in the top one percent of OB/GYN physicians nationally. Dr. Plaxe provides collaborative support and oversight in his administrative and academic capacity rather than serving as a full-time clinical provider at the Rancho Mirage location.

Advanced Practice Provider

Nancy Cordova, NP Gynecologic Oncology Eisenhower Health

Nancy Cordova, NP supports the GYN Oncology practice at Eisenhower, assisting with patient care and after-hours communication. A second NP is currently being recruited to support the expanded two-physician team.
