Clinical Component

Navigating the Clinical Component

The role encompasses all pathology services within a single facility, avoiding the need for travel. The annual workload includes approximately 25,000 surgical specimens and 500 bone marrow cases (handled separately). The team supports five to six tumor boards, with an average of two per week. There are no weekend cases, no GYN cytology, and minimal clinical pathology responsibilities. Call duties are evenly distributed among the team, typically involving one to two calls at night with only occasional in-person hospital visits.

Exceptional support services include two pathology assistants performing grossing duties, four histotechnologists for slide preparation, and four cytotechnologists for cytology screening and immediate adequacy assessments. Subspecialty opportunities are available, particularly in GYN, breast, and dermatopathology.

Current Staff
The pathology team is highly experienced, with no hierarchical structure. All members, regardless of tenure, earn equivalent compensation. The team includes five full-time pathologists, two per-diem physicians, and two pathology assistants. There is also a full clinical laboratory, a cytology lab, and flow cytometry services. The group values collaboration and evenly divides cases and call responsibilities.
