A Dynamic Blend of Obstetric and Gynecologic Excellence

Your clinical practice as an OBGYN Hospitalist will immerse you in the full spectrum of hospital-based women's care, from managing routine deliveries to handling complex obstetric emergencies, and from providing gynecologic consultations to performing urgent surgical interventions. Unlike traditional laborist positions that focus solely on obstetrics, you'll maintain your complete skill set through dedicated GYN hospitalist shifts, ensuring your surgical expertise remains sharp while providing comprehensive care to women across all stages of life.

The patient population you'll serve reflects Central Florida's remarkable diversity, with a payer mix that includes 45% commercial insurance across the division. You'll care for patients ranging from young mothers experiencing their first pregnancy to women requiring complex gynecologic surgery, with the acuity level varying based on your chosen primary campus. At the flagship Orlando campus, you might manage placenta accreta cases through the specialized ACCRETA program, while at community hospitals like Winter Park, you'll focus on delivering exceptional care to a predominantly commercially-insured population in one of the area's most affluent communities.

Clinical Responsibilities and Scope

  • Provide 24/7 in-house coverage for obstetric emergencies and unassigned deliveries
  • Manage gynecologic emergencies and post-operative complications
  • Support 33 community physician groups with backup coverage and complex case management
  • Participate in the ACCRETA program for complex placental abnormalities (Orlando campus)
  • Utilize Epic EMR system integrated across all hospitals and clinics
  • Collaborate with seven-member Maternal-Fetal Medicine team for high-risk consultations
  • Access to DaVinci robotic surgery systems at multiple campuses
  • Optional participation in residency teaching and simulation training

Unmatched Flexibility in Practice Design

What truly sets this opportunity apart is the remarkable flexibility to customize your role. While some hospitalists prefer exclusively obstetric work, others maintain active GYN surgical practices through dedicated GYN hospitalist shifts. You might choose to focus entirely on nights (with additional compensation) or work exclusively day shifts if positions are available. Interested in academics? Participate in the residency program. Passionate about complex cases? Focus your practice at the high-acuity Orlando campus. Want a hybrid model? AdventHealth has successfully created arrangements where hospitalists maintain PRN clinic hours for continuity with GYN surgical patients. This isn't a one-size-fits-all position—it’s an opportunity to design a hospital-based practice that aligns with your interests and career goals.

Specialized Programs and Support

Your practice benefits from exceptional subspecialty support, including a robust MFM team providing 24/7 consultation across all campuses via telemedicine when not physically present. The dedicated inpatient MFM specialist at Orlando manages antepartum patients, allowing you to focus on active labor and delivery care. For complex cases, you'll work alongside specialists in the ACCRETA program, managing cases where the placenta abnormally adheres to the uterine wall—a growing concern in modern obstetrics that requires sophisticated team-based care.

The integration with AdventHealth's women's navigation team means patients arrive at the hospital well-prepared and informed, reducing confusion and improving satisfaction scores. You'll also have access to a dedicated OB Emergency Department at the Orlando campus, streamlining triage and admission processes for obstetric patients.

Working within this collaborative framework means you're never isolated in decision-making. Whether you're managing a precipitous delivery at 3 AM or coordinating care for a complex gynecologic emergency, you'll have immediate access to colleagues, specialists, and resources that ensure optimal outcomes. This support system, combined with clear protocols and excellent nursing staff, creates an environment where you can practice confidently and effectively while maintaining reasonable work-life boundaries.
