Understanding the Role

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is recruiting an outpatient internal medicine physician to join Memorial Medical Group, southwest Louisiana's largest employed physician network.

This is a well-established, high-performing practice with an existing patient base, strong APP support, and a schedule structure built around physician quality of life. The incoming physician will practice at the main campus clinic, the most modern and fully equipped site in the network.

Why This Position Exists

The internal medicine group is expanding to meet growing patient demand across the five-parish region. Lake Charles Memorial has built one of the most comprehensive outpatient internal medicine networks in southwest Louisiana, and the incoming physician joins a stable, high-performing group of colleagues with an established infrastructure already in place.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide continuity-based outpatient care for an adult internal medicine patient panel
• Manage acute, subacute, and chronic conditions in the outpatient setting
• Perform basic in-office procedures including vaccinations, wound care, suturing, and minor cyst or lesion removal
• Participate in shared practice call rotation with an answering service
• Collaborate with APP team members and specialist colleagues across the Memorial Medical Group network

Optional Practice Additions

Physicians who want to expand their scope can add any of the following on a voluntary basis:

• Hospital rounding on their own admitted patients (currently four physicians in the group do this)
• Nursing home rounding (scheduled during administrative time)
• Inpatient rehabilitation rounding
• Long-term acute care rounding
• Directorships and related administrative roles

None of these are required. The core position is outpatient clinic only.

Schedule

Physicians work four full clinic days per week. The half-day of administrative time is flexible and can be completed from home. Physicians who are current on their administrative work often experience this as a genuine half-day off.

Qualifications

• MD or DO
• Board certified or board eligible in internal medicine
• Interest in outpatient continuity-based practice
• Strong foundation in chronic disease management and adult primary/specialty care
