MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, one of the 10 MedStar Health hospitals, is looking for a talented and compassionate physician to join the team as the Hospice and Palliative Care Medical Director. This role is a consultative service, and the provider will be the presiding leader for Hospice and Palliative Care at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.
We are looking for a BE/BC Hospice and Palliative Care (or related) physician to join our collaborative team. St. Mary’s County is a very supportive and loyal community, and the Hospice and Palliative Care Medical Director needs to be willing to become a part of the community and live in the county (will describe the county later).
The provider needs to be industrious and able to navigate without full-time support. The team is not a big one, for the Palliative line, it will consist of you, a social worker, and a well-trained APP. For Hospice, it will be you, another provider and a Nurse Practitioner. We have a team-based approach, very strong leadership support, and a great system-wide approach with a large community of people to draw from. There will be academic and research opportunities as well.
Palliative Care has an innovative call structure; it is a weekend remote call rotation and there is no evening call. The weekend call rotation requires only 10 4-hour shifts a year, Saturdays, or Sundays, all remote from home. You can do more, and if you do you are compensated $500 per shift additionally. Hospice call is basically 1:3 remote, phone or computer.
Compensation will be based on a lucrative formula-based compensation plan for Palliative Care, an example of which is below and will be explained in detail at the appropriate time, and a sizeable stipend for Hospice
