For Palliative Care you will report to Dr. Rachel Adams, Division Chief for Palliative Care within the Department of Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. For Hospice, you will report to Dr. Mimi Novello, the President and CMO of MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.
Dr. Adams serves as Division Chief for Palliative Care within the Department of Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH). Prior to joining Medstar Georgetown, Dr. Adams was associate director for inpatient consult services in the Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Care at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY, where she also completed her Palliative Medicine fellowship. Dr. Adams is a graduate of the Boston University Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program in Boston, MA and received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Adams is deeply committed to interdisciplinary team work, which is core to the structure of high-quality palliative care and is very proud to lead a team at Georgetown with representation from nursing, social work, medicine, and pharmacy. Dr. Adams holds a BA from Swarthmore College in English Literature.
Dr. Mimi Novello is the President and Chief Medical Officer for MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with direct responsibility for and oversight of the hospital’s day-to-day operations, as well as providing a comprehensive clinical vision and medical direction to ensure delivery of the highest quality healthcare services.
She also serves as Senior Vice President of Columbia, MD-based MedStar Health system.
Dr. Novello joined the MedStar Health System in 1999 as an attending physician in the emergency department at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore. She most recently served as the hospital’s Vice President of Medical Affairs.
Under Dr. Novello’s leadership, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for MedStar Franklin Square improved from a grade-C to grade-A. She also led the implementation of hospital information technology platforms, including MedConnect.
