Balanced Schedule and Expanding Bone Marrow Transplant Program with Teaching and Research Opportunities

Schedule: M-F with 2 clinical days and 3 days of teaching, with some flexibility depending on the incoming provider’s preferences.

All BMT will be based at a new facility in progress, adding phase 1 clinical trials – also adding 2-4 chairs. Currently, the BMT wait time is 1-2 mo. to schedule. The team includes 11 schedule coordinators, MUSC has their own finance team, 5 patient care coordinators, and a quality team.

The team has 6 hematologists covering BMT and covers 1 week at a time now with 3 inpatient units- 2 units in Art (23-beds) 40-60% census averages is BMT which is an APP run service, there is 10-12 beds for BMT. 1 unit based at the main hospital - malignant HEM patients are capped and run by residents/ fellows with 10-20 patients on average. The whole unit has 42-beds (plans to move all together). The team has weekly meeting w/ BMT to discuss workflow. BMT physicians will have teaching and research opportunities.

Volumes: Recently there have been 200 estimated transplants annually (the only accredited program in the state along with Prisma). An estimated 250 BMT is predicted for next year.

Outpatient BMT based is attractive and growing outpatient Car T program.

Call: incoming providers will participate in call rotation with other malignant hematologists (currently 6 providers)
