Understanding the Role

Your Vital Role in Rural Healthcare Excellence

Imagine stepping into a practice where every patient interaction matters, where you're not just another provider in a corporate system, but the cornerstone of healthcare for an entire community. As the Family Medicine Physician at Morrow County Health District's Heppner Clinic, you'll experience the profound satisfaction of truly comprehensive care – treating generations of families from their first breaths through their golden years, becoming woven into the fabric of a close-knit agricultural community that desperately needs and deeply values your expertise.

This isn't just another outpatient position; it's an opportunity to practice medicine the way it was meant to be practiced. The Heppner Clinic has been without a dedicated physician for approximately two years, creating a significant gap in continuity of care that you'll fill. Your arrival will transform healthcare delivery for the 12,000+ residents of Morrow County and surrounding communities, finally providing the consistent, accessible primary care they deserve. The district's commitment to reopening the clinic five days per week demonstrates their dedication to meeting community needs – and your role is central to making this vision a reality.

  • Practice Setting: Outpatient clinic integrated with a 21-bed Critical Access Hospital, offering seamless coordination between ambulatory and inpatient services
  • Required Qualifications: MD or DO with current Oregon medical license (or ability to obtain), Board Certification in Family Medicine, and at least 2–3 years of practice experience to handle the autonomous nature of rural medicine
  • Schedule Flexibility: Four 10-hour days (Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday), with providers collaborating to ensure five-day clinic coverage – no rigid corporate scheduling mandates
  • Position Type: Full-time permanent position (not a replacement) as the district expands services to meet growing community demand
  • Leadership Structure: Report directly to CEO Bob Houser, with clinical coordination through Trista Seastone, Clinical Supervisor – a refreshingly flat organizational structure
  • Work-Life Balance: No mandatory call requirements, with optional ED coverage available for additional compensation if desired

This position represents more than a job opportunity – it's a chance to rediscover why you chose medicine in the first place. In Heppner, you'll trade the frustrations of corporate healthcare for the deep satisfaction of being a true community physician, where your clinical decisions aren't questioned by distant administrators and your relationships with patients span decades, not minutes.
