You’ll be joining an established team of 7 Oncologists and 4 APP’s, along with a comprehensive support team. You also have the opportunity to do clinical trials or research if desired. The Medical Director/Section Head will report directly to Dr. Larned.

Zoe Larned, MD

Chair, Hematology/Oncology; Director, Inpatient Hematology/Oncology

Dr. Larned earned her medical degree from Emory University. She remained at Emory to complete her internship and residency in internal medicine. She completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. She is board certified in internal medicine and oncology.

Dr. Larned specializes in hematology/oncology and has a medical interest in solid tumors, breast cancer, and genitourinary cancer and is a part of of the Ochsner Neuroendocrine Tumor multidisciplinary team. She has been on staff at Ochsner since June 2004. She practices in The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center, Ochsner Medical Center, Ochsner Baptist and Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner. Burke Brooks, MD

Chairman, Department of Hematology/Oncology
Chief of Staff, Ochsner Medical Center Baton Rouge

Dr. Burke J. Brooks earned his medical degree from LSU. He completed his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and his fellowship at the National Cancer Institute's Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Research Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine-Medical Oncology. Dr. Brooks has been on staff at Ochsner since 1987. His leadership positions at Ochsner have included Chief of Medicine, Chief of Medical Subspecialties, Chairman of the Research Committee, membership on the Research Advisory Committee, and was a former member on the Board of Governors of Ochsner Clinic Foundation. He also holds an elected position on the Board of Governors of the Ochsner Clinic Foundation. Dr. Brooks has written many articles for scientific medical publications and has written chapters for several oncology textbooks. Dr. Brooks' expertise is in lung cancer, breast cancer treatment and prevention, and cancer genetics.

Stephen Bardot, MD

Associate Medical Director, Surgical Services

Dr. Stephen Bardot earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical School. He completed his surgical residency at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, and his urology residency at Kansas University Medical Center. He completed a urologic oncology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Dr. Bardot is board-certified in urology and has been on staff at Ochsner since 1991. In addition to his responsibilities as the Chairman of Ochsner's Urology Section, Dr. Bardot is the Director of Cancer Services at Ochsner and a member of Ochsner's Board of Directors, among other responsibilities.

An active researcher, Dr. Bardot has several scientific medical articles, abstracts, presentations and lectures to his credit.

Christos Theodossiou, MD

Breast Medical Oncology
Hematology Oncology

Dr Theodossiou earned his medical degree from the University of Athens while he completed his internship and residency at Grant Hospital in Chicago. He also completed a Hematology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and an Oncology fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, NIH, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr Theodossiou was certified in Internal Medicine in 1990 and recertified in 2000. He was certified in Hematology in 1994 and recertified in 2004 and 2014. He was certified in Oncology in 1995 and recertified in 2005 and 2015.

Dr Theodossiou specializes in Hematology/Oncology. He has been on staff at Ochsner Medical since June 2004 and practices at The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, Ochsner Medical Center, Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center, and Ochsner Baptist. Katrina Wade, MD

Gynecologic Oncology 

Dr. Katrina Wade's area of clinical expertise is gynecologic cancers, including cervical, uterine, vulvar and ovarian cancer, as well as gestational trophoblastic disease. Dr. Wade is a highly skilled surgeon with expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgery for gynecologic tumors.

Dr. Wade has been recognized for her research pertaining to the field of gynecologic oncology and is widely published in peer-reviewed medical journals. She also serves as the principal investigator for gynecologic cancer clinical trials at Ochsner.

Dr. Wade strongly believes in a multidisciplinary team approach to gynecologic cancer care. She seeks to provide women with the most advanced and personalized treatment plans while best preserving quality of life. She enjoys working with community providers so that patients are comforted by receiving care close to home.

Diogo Torres, MD

Gynecologic Oncology

Dr. Diogo Torres joined the Ochsner team as a gynecologic oncologist after completing his fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and residency at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. He specializes in the care of women with endometrial, ovarian, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers and complex surgical needs. He provides minimally invasive surgical options to women, including robotic and laparoscopic-assisted procedures, and is trained in sentinel lymph node biopsy for uterine, cervical, and vulvar cancer. He also performs ovarian cancer debulking and radical procedures for other gynecologic cancers.

Dr. Torres' research interests include quality improvement, enhanced recovery, and ovarian cancer molecular subtypes. His work has been presented at national and international conferences, and he has nearly a dozen peer-reviewed publications, two of which were the lead article in Gynecologic Oncology. He is also actively involved in professional societies and is a member of the NRG Ovarian Cancer Committee and the SGO Task Force.

Dr. Torres believes in a team approach between physician and patient and always puts the patient’s need first. His expertise is in robotic-assisted surgery for endometrial cancer and extensive ovarian cancer debulking for women with advanced and recurrent ovarian cancer. He is committed to offering comprehensive medical and surgical care and working with doctors, nurses, and support staff to help women make important decisions and receive personalized, evidence-based care. He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and is excited to collaborate with physicians throughout Louisiana.

Tyesha Taylor, NP

Hematology Oncology

Tyesha Taylor, NP received her undergraduate degree and medical degree from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. She is board certified by The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has been on staff at Ochsner since June 2018 and practicing medicine since June 2018. Her expertise is in Hematology/Oncology.

Khelsea Conley, NP

Hematology Oncology

Khelsea Conley is a hematology-oncology provider in Baton Rouge. at Ochsner Medical Complex – The Grove. Conley earned a master’s degree in family nursing from Southern University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She has been caring for cancer patients and patients with blood disorders since 2008.

Jessica Porter, PA-C

Hematology Oncology

Jessica received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Psychology from Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore. She then received a Master of Medical Science degree in physician assistant studies from Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University, formally Our Lady of Lake College, in Baton Rouge, LA. While in training, she completed clinical rotations in internal medicine, pediatric hematology/oncology, general surgery, family medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, orthopedics, psychology, urgent care, and obstetrics and gynecology. Jessica is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology, Oncology Nursing Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Louisiana Academy of Physician Assistant.

Phaon Dunbar, NP

Hematology Oncology

Phaon Dunbar earned a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in nursing, family nurse practitioner, at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Rockne Hymel, MD

Radiation Oncology

Dr. Rockne Hymel received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans. He completed his training in radiation oncology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Hymel is board-certified in Louisiana and has been on staff at Ochsner since August 2019.

His expertise is in radiation oncology, including genitourinary cancers (including prostate cancer), breast cancer, head and neck cancers, lung cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, melanoma/skin cancers, brain tumors, sarcoma, and lymphoma. He is also very involved in using partial breast radiation for certain breast cancers which can reduce treatment length and side effects. He is also experienced in the palliation of metastatic cancer (bone, brain, soft tissue metastases) as well as stereotactic body radiation therapy and radio-surgery.

Troy Scroggins, MD

Department Chairman, Radiation Oncology

Dr. Scroggins completed his undergraduate work in biology at the University of Kansas and earned his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his internship at the University of Tennessee and his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Scroggins is currently the System Chair of Radiation Oncology. His areas of expertise include prostate cancer, breast cancer, and cancers of the head and neck area. He is actively engaged in cancer research and serves as principal investigator for several prostate cancer trials. He has also focused efforts to increase early detection and treatment of cancer in under-served and minority populations in the New Orleans area and previously served as principal investigator for a National Cancer Institute grant to improve cancer screening and treatment among minority groups. He routinely volunteers time to educate the public on cancer awareness and other health issues.

Christophe Marques, MD

Radiation Oncology

Christophe Marques, M.D./Ph.D., is a radiation oncologist at the The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, Ochsner Medical Center New Orleans. Dr. Marques earned a medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he also completed an internship in Internal Medicine. He completed a residency in Radiation Oncology at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center in California. Dr. Marques is board certified by Radiation Oncology and has been on staff at Ochsner since August 2021. Prior to pursuing his medical education, Dr. Marques earned a doctorate in mechanical engineering, designed and tested high-performance devices for applications in the aerospace and defense industries, as well as participated in auto racing.

David Pointer, MD

Surgical Oncology

Dr. David Pointer earned his medical degree and completed General Surgery Residency from Tulane University School of Medicine, which included a Research Fellowship within the Department of Structural and Cellular Biology. Dr. Pointer completed fellowship training in Surgical Oncology at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, FL, with additional focus on robotic approaches in complex surgical oncology.

As a surgical oncologist specializing in the diagnosis and management of complex malignancies, he utilizes a variety of skills and strategies, including minimally invasive techniques and multidisciplinary care, to provide quality personalized treatment for both common and rare malignancies.

His clinical interests include gastrointestinal, hepatopancreaticobiliary, skin and soft tissue malignancies with a specific focus on the application of robotic techniques. His research interests include surgical education and outcomes in minimally invasive oncologic surgery.

Dr. Pointer is double board-certified in Complex General Surgical Oncology and General Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO), the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS), and the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA).

Russell Brown, MD

Surgical Oncology

Dr. Russell Brown earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in San Antonio, Texas. He then completed a general surgery residency at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation. Dr. Brown went on to complete a surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Louisville. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Nathan Bolton, MD

Surgical Oncology

Dr. Nathan Bolton received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his internship and residency at the Ochsner Medical Center. Upon completing residency, Dr. Bolton traveled to New York and completed a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at Mount Sinai Hospital before returning to Ochsner to practice.

Dr. Bolton's expertise is in upper gastrointestinal malignancy (gastric, esophageal), hepatopancreaticobiliary malignancy, neuroendocrine tumors, sarcoma, and melanoma, and peritoneal surface malignancy and peritoneal carcinomatosis from GI or ovarian origin (HIPEC).

Matthew Giglia, MD

Colon and Rectal Surgery

Dr. Matthew Giglia earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and his Doctor of Medicine degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and his colon and rectal surgery fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (Case Western Reserve University).

Dr. Giglia is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Louisiana State Medical Society. He is double board-certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery.

Dr. Giglia’s specific areas of professional interest include surgical management of colon and rectal cancer, laparoscopic and robotic colon and rectal surgery, surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis), treatment of anorectal disease (fistulas, hemorrhoids, fissures), and management of diverticular disease.

Kiara Turner, NP

Palliative Medicine

Kiara Turner, N.P., specializes in palliative medicine at Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge. Turner earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Southern University. She has experience in hospice care, cardiology and pediatrics. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
