Position Overview

Understanding the Role

A Legacy Practice Ready for New Leadership

You will step into a well-established urology practice serving as the sole urologist for a 400,000+ patient catchment area in east-central Mississippi. Dr. Ward has built this practice over nearly three decades, earning the trust of referring physicians and patients throughout the region. His upcoming retirement creates an immediate opportunity for a urologist ready to lead an independent practice with full hospital support and a patient population that genuinely needs your expertise.

Ochsner Rush Health is a 215-bed hospital anchoring healthcare delivery for Meridian and surrounding communities. The region has been medically underserved in urology for years, and your arrival will address a critical gap in specialty care. Patients currently travel significant distances for urological services, and local primary care physicians are eager for a trusted partner to whom they can refer. You will inherit an active patient panel from day one, with referral relationships already in place and a community prepared to welcome you.

  • Practice structure: Solo urologist position with full autonomy over clinical decision-making and practice development
  • Service area: Primary coverage for Meridian and surrounding communities representing 400,000+ potential patients
  • Weekly schedule: 36 hours of patient contact plus 4 hours of administrative time, with flexibility to structure OR days and clinic days according to your preference
  • Position type: Replacement for retiring physician; high-priority recruitment with leadership committed to a smooth transition
  • Visa sponsorship: J1 and H1B sponsorship available for qualified international medical graduates

Building Your Practice, Your Way

This position offers something increasingly rare in modern healthcare: the ability to shape your own practice within a supportive hospital system. You will determine your clinical focus areas, build your surgical schedule around your preferences, and develop the practice in directions that align with your professional interests. Ochsner Rush provides the infrastructure, staff, and administrative support while you maintain control over how you deliver care.

The hospital's leadership understands the value of this position and has demonstrated flexibility in structuring arrangements that attract the right candidate. You will interview with Lance Brent, Dr. Ward, and CEO Larkin, all of whom are invested in finding a urologist who wants to build a lasting career in Meridian rather than simply fill a slot.

This is a practice where you will know your patients by name, where your clinical judgment drives care decisions, and where you can see the direct impact of your work on a community that needs you.
