Empowering Minds: Education and Schools in Our Community

With two top-rated public school districts, private religious and secular academies, a dedicated career and technical center, and accessible college campuses, Millersburg offers unparalleled academic opportunities from K-12 through higher education.

The East Holmes and West Holmes public school districts enroll approximately 4,600 total students across Holmes County. East Holmes operates John R. Lea Middle School (grades 6-8) and Hiland High School (grades 9-12), the latter earning U.S. News’ prestigious Bronze Medal among America’s best high schools. Hiland delivers a comprehensive STEM academy enrolling 150 students in advanced Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education pathways, complemented by 18 diverse Advanced Placement courses as well as Completer Courses for career-technical education in partnership with local businesses. Both districts maintain stellar graduation rates above 90%.

Beyond public schools, over 95 Amish one-room parochial schools provide dedicated practical life skills and community-oriented education for Amish youth. Additionally, Killbuck Center Christian Academy (K-12) delivers private college preparatory education grounded in Anabaptist values for secular families. The independent Millersburg Elementary School offers non-religious private instruction from pre-K through 6th grade focused on core competencies.

For specialized learning needs, the Holmes County Training Center partners with all local school systems to create customized curriculum helping mainstreamed special education students flourish through individualized education plans. As students approach graduation, the adjacent Holmes County Education Center provides career-specific certifications closely aligned to regional workforce demands in healthcare, animal science, building trades, and other vocational fields. Dual enrollment agreements facilitate college credit transfer with Kent State Tuscarawas located just 25 minutes away. Nearby college options also include the Agricultural Technical Institute branch of Ohio State University.

With national and state recognized public K-12 schools delivering rigorous academics and career pathways reinforced by private religious and non-religious options, then expanded through advanced vocational coursework and accessible college campuses, Millersburg schools universally equip students for prosperity while retaining close-knit community appeal.
