Empowering Minds: Education and Schools in Our Community

Stockton's educational landscape varies considerably by district and neighborhood. Families in physician-preferred areas of north and northwest Stockton have access to the city's strongest public schools, a well-regarded private school system anchored by Saint Mary's High School, and meaningful higher education options including the oldest chartered university in California. Families with specific school priorities have workable options, and private school tuition at this income level is an accessible cost.

Public School Districts

Three primary school districts serve Stockton families, and the district your child attends depends on your home's location.

Lincoln Unified School District (LUSD) Lincoln Unified serves north and northwest Stockton, including the Spanos Park, Lincoln Village, and Brookside neighborhoods. It is the higher-performing of Stockton's primary districts and the one most commonly associated with physician family housing choices. Schools in Spanos Park and Sherwood Manor fall within LUSD boundaries and post math and reading proficiency scores that meet or exceed California statewide averages, which is notably strong for a Central Valley district.

  • Bear Creek High School - Located in Lodi Unified but serves students near Spanos Park; well-regarded among north Stockton families
  • Lincoln High School - Comprehensive LUSD high school in north Stockton
  • Middle College High School - Located on the San Joaquin Delta College campus; students earn both high school and college credit simultaneously

Stockton Unified School District (SUSD) SUSD is the city's primary district, serving central and south Stockton with 54 schools and approximately 34,500 students. District-wide test scores run below state averages and reflect the economic challenges of the communities it serves. Families living in SUSD boundaries typically look to charter or private options for stronger academic environments.

Charter Schools

Several well-regarded charter schools operate within or near Stockton for families seeking alternatives to traditional public schools.

  • Stockton Early College Academy - Nationally ranked public charter high school; 100% graduation rate, 100% of students take at least one AP exam; ranked #289 nationally
  • Pacific Law Academy - Public charter high school within SUSD; 96% graduation rate, 87% of students take AP courses; graduates regularly accepted to UC schools, Stanford, and Cal Poly
  • Aspire Benjamin Holt College Preparatory Academy - College prep charter serving grades 9-12 in the Lodi Unified area
