Role Description and Practice Setting:

The Cardiac Surgery position at UCHealth in Southern Colorado offers an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated cardiac surgeon to lead and further develop a well-established cardiac program. This role is positioned in a hospital setting within the UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central, a Level I trauma center in Colorado Springs, known for its advanced cardiac care and Parkview Medical Center, a Level 2 trauma center in Pueblo (43 miles south of Colorado Springs), home to the regions first certified Stroke Center. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of 48, including 9 interventional cardiologists, 5 electrophysiologists, 21 general cardiologists, and 13 advanced practice providers (APPs).

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates must be board-certified in cardiothoracic surgery and have at least five years of post-fellowship experience. Additional training in advanced cardiac procedures such as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and mitral clip programs is highly preferred.

Responsibilities and Work Schedule:

The surgeon will perform a variety of cardiac procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve surgeries, aneurysm repair, and TAVR. The expected work schedule is full-time, with approximately 10 on-call days per month. This is a new position aimed at supporting the growing needs of the cardiac surgery program and enhancing patient care across Southern Colorado.

The surgeon will serve the Southern Colorado region and will have hospital privileges at both Memorial Hospital Central and Parkview Medical Center. 60% of the surgeon’s time will be spent at Parkview Medical Center building the Cardiac Surgery program and 40% in the Springs at Memorial Hospital Central building a practice there.  

Reporting Structure and Leadership:

The role includes significant interaction with the hospital's cardiology team, cardiac anesthesiologists, and critical care team. The candidate will report directly to the head of the cardiac surgery department and will be integral in the strategic development and operational management of the cardiac program.
