Position Overview

Union Health is an integrated health system made up of Union Hospital, Union Medical Group, and Union Hospital Clinton.

The primary focus of an integrated health system is to provide seamless care for patients and their families. What makes integrated health care special is the sharing of information among caregivers. By sharing health information through a single medical record system, important patterns can be detected and addressed quickly. Teamwork between caregivers supports "complete" treatment and improves overall patient well-being.  

Professional

  • Management of benign hematology conditions including dvt/pe, cbc abnormalities, bone marrow failures, in collaboration with a hematologist. 
  • Management, in collaboration with an oncologist, of both highly curable cancers with surveillance, as well as improving quality of life in those with incurable cancers. 
  • Many cancers are now chronic medical conditions given rapidly evolving treatment modalities. 
  • <5% of patients on chemotherapy require hospitalization but require close outpatient management. 
  • APPs rotate on inpatient side assisting with hematology and oncology consults about 25% of the time and outpatient 75%.
  • Average hospital consults per day are 1 to 5.
  • Cerner EMR with Dragon Dictation.
  • Schedule is set by the provider.
  • Call is done every 3rd weekend
  • APP(s) take the 1st call 
  • Average patient volume is 3-4 new patients per day, with 15-20 return visits per day. 
  • 30 minutes for new patients
  • 15 minutes for return visits 
  • There are 17 infusion chairs 
  • Permanent PET Scanner located in the hospital 
  • We partner with St. Francis for clinical trials and research
