Empowering Minds: Education and Schools in Our Community

Shreveport's education landscape requires some navigation. The public school system overall performs below state and national averages, but the metro offers standout magnet programs, well-regarded private schools, and a strong higher education presence. Families relocating to the area most commonly choose private schools or select public options within the Caddo Parish magnet system.

Public Schools: Caddo Parish School District

The Caddo Parish School District serves the city of Shreveport across 59 schools. Overall district performance falls below the Louisiana state average in both math and reading proficiency, with average scores of 27 percent in math and 33 percent in reading. However, the district's magnet and advanced placement schools represent a meaningful exception.

The Bossier Parish system generally outperforms the Caddo Parish district on average.

Summary for Physician Families

Families with school-age children most commonly pursue one of three paths: enrollment in the Caddo Parish magnet system, private school placement, or residence in Bossier Parish to access that district's public schools. All three are practical options. The presence of LSU Health Sciences Center also means that physician children considering medical careers have direct access to one of Louisiana's premier academic medical institutions in their own backyard.
