Your clinical practice will center on a high-volume, high-complexity environment where you’ll perform an impressive spectrum of regional anesthesia techniques. From interscalene and supraclavicular blocks for upper extremity surgery to femoral, adductor canal, and popliteal sciatic blocks for orthopedic cases, you’ll have the opportunity to refine and apply your expertise daily. Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks, spinal, and epidural anesthesia will also be part of your procedural toolkit, giving you the versatility to meet diverse patient needs.
Your schedule will include a structured Acute Pain Service (APS) rotation, typically one week per month, where mornings are dedicated to block procedures and afternoons to general OR coverage. During non-APS weeks, you will provide general anesthesia coverage for a wide range of surgical cases. This balance ensures your practice remains both procedurally rich and clinically broad.
You’ll practice with state-of-the-art technology, including a $3.5 million investment in new GE Datex Ohmeda Aisys CS2 anesthesia machines, Epic EMR for streamlined documentation, and Qgenda scheduling for efficiency. These tools enhance your ability to focus on patient care rather than administrative burdens.
As part of an academic medical center, you will play a direct role in shaping the next generation of anesthesiologists. You’ll supervise residents in the OR and APS settings, lead simulation training, and deliver lectures on regional anesthesia and perioperative pain management. For physicians passionate about mentorship, this is an environment where teaching is prioritized and supported.
The call schedule is designed with balance in mind: approximately seven 12-hour in-house backup shifts per month. Post-call recovery days are provided, and weekend call yields additional recovery days or the option to sell back shifts at $300/hour. This structure ensures you can maintain a rewarding career without sacrificing your personal well-being.
