Position Overview

Understanding the Role

A Unique Academic Role in Augusta, GA

As an Acute Pain Anesthesiologist at Wellstar MCG Health, you will step into a dynamic academic environment that blends high-volume regional anesthesia practice with the rewards of perioperative pain management and teaching. This is not a role where you’ll feel siloed or limited—rather, it’s an opportunity to practice over 2,500 blocks annually, expand an established Acute Pain Service, and directly influence the training of residents and medical students in a nationally respected academic department.

You’ll find your days balanced between complex block procedures, perioperative pain care, and general anesthesia coverage, with clear opportunities for leadership as surgical volumes expand and new facilities come online. The program’s growth trajectory ensures that your expertise will shape not only individual patient outcomes but also the future direction of anesthesia care at this institution.

Why Your Expertise Matters Here

Augusta serves as a referral hub for complex surgical and trauma patients from across Georgia and South Carolina, creating a consistent demand for advanced regional anesthesia and multimodal perioperative pain protocols. By joining this team, you’ll be meeting a clear community and institutional need—providing the kind of specialized, high-touch anesthesia care that directly improves recovery times, reduces opioid reliance, and elevates patient satisfaction.
