Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Electrophysiology Leadership in Action

As the incoming Electrophysiology Medical Director at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, you’ll step into a dynamic leadership role with a dual focus: elevate an already strong EP service line and guide the development of a premier AFib program. This is not simply a clinical position — it’s an opportunity to shape the future of cardiac electrophysiology care across Western New York.

Clinical and Administrative Balance

You will dedicate approximately 85% of your time to clinical responsibilities — including procedures, consultations, and patient care — while 15% of your time (312 hours/year) is protected for administrative and strategic leadership. This split gives you the flexibility to remain deeply engaged in your specialty while also having the authority and time to innovate and lead.

Strategic Oversight and Vision

In this role, you will lead a team of four electrophysiologists within a broader department of 29+ cardiologists and 23 advanced practice providers (APPs). The department is poised for expansion, with over 55,000 patients currently under management and ambitions to double that footprint. Your leadership will directly influence the structure, staffing, and strategic goals of the EP program. You’ll also spearhead the launch of a dedicated AFib Ablation Clinic and represent EP in interdisciplinary planning efforts.

Practice Environment

The EP service operates out of four state-of-the-art EP labs at Mercy Hospital, all outfitted for complex procedures. You’ll benefit from EP-only call (typically 1:4 to 1:5), enabling you to maintain focus within your specialty. A dedicated EP rounding service and robust APP support help maintain continuity and reduce administrative burdens. Additional outreach responsibilities, such as consulting at affiliated regional sites, will be limited to 1–2 times per month, providing meaningful community engagement without exhausting travel.

Leadership and Influence

You will report directly to the Chief of Cardiology, participating in high-level discussions on program development, quality improvement, and patient access. As Medical Director, your responsibilities include guiding peer performance through chart reviews, participating in PI (Performance Improvement) initiatives, and collaborating with other service line leaders to build a more integrated and responsive cardiovascular institute.

Compensation and Recognition

You will be rewarded with a total compensation package between $743,600 and $768,600, including:

  • Base Salary: $650,000–$675,000
  • Medical Director Stipend: $93,600 (based on 312 hours/year at $300/hour)
  • RVU Bonus Potential: $62.58 per RVU, with a 10,786 RVU annual threshold
  • Arrival and Retention Bonuses available
  • EP-only call with optional additional shift compensation

This role is tailor-made for a confident, innovative electrophysiologist who thrives in both the cath lab and the boardroom. You’ll find an environment of support, flexibility, and autonomy — combined with a compelling leadership opportunity to leave a lasting mark on one of the Northeast’s most respected cardiac programs.
