Empowering Minds: Education and Schools in Our Community

Public School Districts

The three counties each operate their own public-school systems. Academic performance varies, and families with children should review current district data. Across all three counties, proximity to Athens significantly expands private school options for families who prioritize that.

Elbert County Schools Elbert County Schools serves approximately 3,076 students across five schools, pre-K through grade 12, in Elberton. The district offers gifted programming, JROTC, and AP coursework with a 37% AP participation rate at the high school level. State proficiency scores are below the Georgia average, and SchoolDigger ranks the district 128 out of 206 Georgia districts. Families who prioritize academic performance through public schools may find the Athens-area private options a more practical fit.

Hart County School District Hart County operates eight public schools serving approximately 3,500 students with 244 teachers. The district includes the Hart College and Career Academy and Agro Science Center, reflecting a workforce-aligned academic focus suited to the regional economy. Academic performance data is more competitive relative to state averages than Elbert County's profile.

The district includes Broad River College and Career Academy. Madison County's proximity to Athens creates enrichment opportunities through University of Georgia programs, and the district has shown academic improvement in recent state assessments.
