Understanding the Role

Dynamic Practice Environment in a Supportive Healthcare System

As an Urgent Care Physician with Franciscan Health, you'll find yourself at the center of a thriving, fast-paced practice that combines the best elements of acute care with a manageable schedule and supportive team environment. You'll practice across three distinct Express Care locations in Central Indiana, each offering its own unique patient demographic and practice flow, while maintaining Franciscan's consistent commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.

Unlike many emergency medicine positions that leave you exhausted from overnight shifts and constant high-intensity cases, or primary care roles that keep you tied to administrative tasks long after clinic hours, this opportunity offers the perfect balance—challenging medicine with clear boundaries between work and personal life.

The Indianapolis metro area desperately needs experienced urgent care providers, with Franciscan working to expand services to meet growing community demand. You'll be a vital part of this expansion, joining a team of dedicated professionals who take pride in offering accessible care to diverse populations across the region.

  • Practice setting includes three modern Express Care facilities with full support staffing and on-site imaging at Thompson Commons, Greenwood, and Stone's Crossing locations
  • Collaborative environment with experienced support staff at ratios of 4:2 to 5:2 (staff-to-provider), ensuring you have the assistance needed to practice efficiently
  • Flexible 12-hour shift scheduling (typically 8 AM - 8 PM) with three shifts per week constituting full-time status, allowing for exceptional work-life balance
  • Board certification required in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Sports Medicine, with previous urgent care experience preferred but not required
  • Minimal administrative burden with efficient EMR systems (Epic for urgent care cases, Cystoc for occupational medicine) and strong support staff handling non-clinical tasks
  • Clear reporting structure with direct access to the Medical Director, who splits time between clinical duties and administrative oversight
  • Expanding service lines across urgent care, occupational medicine, and employer-based care creating a diverse and engaging practice experience

This position represents a significant growth opportunity as Franciscan Health looks to expand from 2.5 FTE physicians to 4.5 FTEs across its Urgent Care network, giving you the chance to shape the future of urgent care services in Central Indiana while enjoying the stability of a respected health system.
