Position Overview

Understanding the Role

UK Kings Daughters Medical Center is recruiting a third Interventional Radiologist to join a busy, procedure-heavy IR program at a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center in Eastern Kentucky. The position is replacing a departing physician on an active team where current physicians are averaging 10 to 15 cases per day.

The incoming physician joins a hospital-employed group with dedicated IR suites, a bi-plane suite, robust APP support, and a strong collaborative relationship across cardiology, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, and the emergency department.

  • Standard IR procedures: biopsies, drains, ports, central lines, dialysis access, nephrostomies, embolizations, IVC filters, TIPS
  • In-clinic procedures: biopsies, drains, paracentesis, thoracentesis, cryoablations
  • Vascular surgery collaboration

Qualifications

  • Board certified in Interventional Radiology
  • Vascular case competency required
  • Stroke intervention experience or training strongly preferred; specifically endovascular thrombectomy
  • Neurointerventional fellowship not required; the team is experienced in proctoring and supports ongoing learning
  • J-1 visa candidates welcome; the health system is cap exempt with a documented track record of long-term retention of international physicians

Additional Context

The health system is physician-led with active physician leadership opportunities across service lines. The IR team operates with a highly collaborative culture and maintains close working relationships with cardiology, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, and neurosurgery.
