Current Providers & Need  

  • They are looking for 10.5 FTE OBGYN Hospitalists 

Support/Resources   

  • Winnie Palmer is a nonprofit 350-bed hospital, including a Level IV NICU with 142-beds making it one of the largest neonatal intensive care units in the United States.
  • Our NICU largest and most technologically advanced NICUs in the nation with best outcomes in the state of Florida for low-birth-weight babies, with a 96 percent survival rate.
  • 25 OB-ED triage rooms 
  • 26 private birthing suites 
  • Work collaboratively with APPs: Certified Midwives, PAs, and NPs
  • 24/7 in-house Anesthesiology 
  • Residency program, residents work shifts Monday and Thursday all day they are supervised by the faculty academic OBGYN hospitalists. 
  • With a workforce of over 1,500 employees, the hospital comprises highly skilled physicians, nurses, and support staff.

Setting  

OBGYN Hospitalist team averages around 4,000 deliveries a year out of the 15,000 deliveries averaged annually at WPH. The rest of the deliveries are covered by the private OBGYNs and OHPA.

WPH: 4 OBGYN Hospitalists and 2 APPs on overlapping shifts throughout the day

Full spectrum OBGYN in an OB-ED setting seeing:  

L&D Shift:

OB patients 20 weeks and up will go straight to OBGYN Hospitalist working the L&D shift.

  • Volume ranges from 3-6 C-sections per provider a shift. 
  • Ample support of midwives to assist with vaginal deliveries.  

OB-ED Triage:

  • General, emergent, and non-emergent complaints including: 
  • 1st trimester bleeders,
  • Confirmed Pregnancies 
  • High blood pressure
  • Non pregnant abnormal uterine bleeding  

Common Procedures  

  • C-sections 
  • Vaginal deliveries 
  • VBAC
  • Forceps if you were trained (not all OBGYNs do them) 
  • Emergent hysterectomies
  • laparoscopic ectopic
  • Ovarian torsions
  • Scopes to diagnose abdominal or ovarian bleeding.
  • D&C 
  • I&D (NPs can assist with this and enjoy taking these cases)  

Shift Hours:

The position offers a flexible work schedule, no call responsibilities, and excellent work life balance.

The schedule is planned 3-4 months in advance, allowing for personal scheduling flexibility.

7 on /7 off model doesn’t work due to the high volume at WPH

Full-time physicians
Required to work 14 shifts per month, which includes a mix of 10-hour and 12-hour shifts.

Part-time physicians
Required to work a minimum of 9 shifts per month. The schedule is planned 3-4 months in advance, allowing for personal scheduling flexibility.

The plan is to expand coverage and add an additional L&D shift once fully staffed.

South Lake Hospital: 12hr shifts and only (1) OBGYN Hospitalist and (1) Nurse Midwife during the day  

Clinical Requirement 

Delivery Requirement
Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least 100 deliveries parentheses to include at least 20 C-sections in the past two years or demonstrate successful completion of an ACG ME or AOA accredited residency within the past 12 months.

Documentation of successful completion of the department approved electronic fetal monitoring course and operative vaginal delivery course within the past 24 months.

GYN Requirement
Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least 50 gynecological surgical procedures to qualify for major gynecological procedures, applicants must demonstrate at least ten major abdominal cases including laparoscopic, reflective of the scope of privileges requested in the past two years or demonstrate successful completion of an ACG ME or AOA accredited residency within the past 12 months.
