About Orlando Health 

Orlando Health, headquartered in Orlando, Florida, is a not-for-profit healthcare organization with $9.6 billion of assets under management that serves the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico.

Founded more than 100 years ago, the healthcare system is recognized around the world for Central Florida’s only pediatric and adult Level I Trauma program as well as the only state-accredited Level II Adult Trauma Center in Pinellas County. It is the home of one of the nation’s largest neonatal intensive care units, one of the only systems in the southeast to offer open fetal surgery to repair the most severe forms of spina bifida, the site of an Olympic athlete training facility and operator of one of the largest and highest performing clinically integrated networks in the region. Orlando Health has pioneered life-changing medical research and its Graduate Medical Education program hosts more than 350 residents and fellows.

The 3,429-bed system includes 32 hospitals and emergency departments – 26 of which are currently operational with six coming soon. The system also includes nine specialty institutes, skilled nursing facilities, an in-patient behavioral health facility under the management of Acadia Healthcare, and more than 375 outpatient facilities that include physician clinics, imaging and laboratory services, wound care centers, home healthcare services in partnership with LHC Group, and urgent care centers in partnership with CareSpot Urgent Care. More than 4,950 physicians, representing more than 100 medical specialties and subspecialties have privileges across the Orlando Health system, which employs more than 29,000 team members and more than 1,400 physicians.

In 2023, Orlando Health cared for 197,000 inpatients and 6.6 million outpatients.  The healthcare system provided nearly $1.3 billion in total impact to the communities it serves in the form of community benefit programs and services, Medicare shortfalls, bad debt, community-building activities and capital investments in 2022, the most recent period for which this information is available. 

Hospital/Facility Overview 

Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies

Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies is an academic medical center dedicated exclusively to the unique healthcare needs of women and infants. This facility is renowned for its family-centered environment and comprehensive range of specialized services, from gynecological care to high-risk obstetrics.

Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies was established in 2006, quickly becoming a cornerstone of women's and infant healthcare in the region.

The hospital features 350-bed, including 142-bed dedicated to neonatal intensive care, making it one of the largest neonatal intensive care units in the United States.

With a workforce of over 1,500 employees, the hospital comprises highly skilled physicians, nurses, and support staff who are dedicated to providing top-tier patient care.

Orlando Health Winnie Palmer offers a wide array of clinical services and specialties, including comprehensive gynecological services, minimally invasive surgeries, general obstetrics, and high-risk pregnancies. The facility is also a Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Hospital for the State of Florida, where high-risk obstetrical patients and their infants receive specialized care. 

Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital 

Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital will open in early 2025, with 124 beds housed in one six-story tower and the ability to expand to up to 240 beds in the five-story tower.

The new hospital will feature the following services: 

  • Labor and delivery services, and a future neonatal intensive care unit
  • 6 state-of-the-art operating rooms
  • 3 catheterization labs with a dedicated interventional radiology and vascular lab
  • Comprehensive cardiovascular care
  • 16 ICU Beds
  • Observation unit
  • Outpatient Scripts Pharmacy 

Orlando Health South Lake Hospital  

Orlando Health South Lake Hospital recently opened a five-story patient tower as an extension to the existing 147-bed acute care hospital.

The tower officially opened February 12, 2024, and houses the Orlando Health South Lake Hospital Center for Women and Babies and several specialty practices of the newly named Orlando Health Women’s Institute, including the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Center for Urogynecology, Center for Advanced Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Surgery and an Orlando Health Cancer Institute Breast Care Center.

A few new features include: 

  • The addition of 88 new patient beds total
  • Seven new postpartum beds and a state-of-the-art nursery, added in March 2022
  • Four new labor and delivery beds

  • Eight additional ICU beds
