THE CAMDEN WATERFRONT

For great family entertainment, check out the Camden Waterfront for historic attractions, aquarium fun and much more.

The Camden Waterfront has a range of attractions that will interest the entire family.

For openers, there's the Battleship New Jersey, America's most decorated battleship, which is permanently berthed on the Delaware River at the Camden Waterfront. At nearly 900 feet long and 11 stories high, the battleship is an impressive addition to the waterfront. The Battleship New Jersey arrived at the Camden Waterfront in July 2000 to undergo restoration and conversion into a museum. The ship opened to the public in October 2001 at its memorial pier near Adventure Aquarium. Adventure Aquarium is a wonderful interactive family fun experience.

The latest addition is the Stingray Beach Club which allows visitors to actually touch and hand-feed an array of stingrays. The Stingray Beach Club is a tropical beach paradise where it's always warm and sunny, and even though you're inside, it feels bright and airy like you've been transported to a tropical island oasis. Fluffy clouds, palm trees, and waterfalls surround guests as they are invited to dip their hands into the warm waters to touch and hand-feed an array of beautiful stingrays. A few lucky guests will even get the chance to wade in with the gentle creatures of Stingray Beach Club for an up-close stingray experience.

In addition to the battleship and aquarium, the Camden Waterfront also has the Camden Children's Garden, and the BB&T Pavilion, which is a year-round amphitheater. This facility is a 25,000-capacity outdoor amphitheater during the summer months, which features a lawn and video screens, computerized sound enhancement with a clear view of the Philadelphia skyline, and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. In the fall and winter months, the center converts into a fully-enclosed, climate-controlled theater for up to 7,000 visitors to see concerts, Broadway productions, and family entertainment.

Nightlife in Philadelphia

Philadelphia’s walkable downtown (which Philadelphians call Center City) makes the area an exciting place for a night out.

Start an evening with drinks at one of the city’s many rooftop bars, outdoor beer gardens, or cocktail destinations, and then move on to dinner at any number of destination-worthy restaurants all over the city — including several lauded as among the best in the nation.

Prefer a beloved dive bar or a spot for great casual eats? There are tons of those as well. And whether fancy or dressed-down, live music, and dancing at venues both in and out of doors keep the party going late into the night — or at least until it’s time for an end-of-the-night cheesesteak…

Food & Drink in Philadelphia

There should be a championship event just for Philadelphia’s food.

Chefs choose Philadelphia for their passion projects; it’s where they can run their (usually small) restaurants and fully commit to their vision. As such, there’s an incredible array of good food to eat here, and there’s a story behind every dish.

What makes up Philly’s diverse dining scene? Street food, 300-plus bring-your-own-bottle (BYOB) restaurants, sidewalk seating reminiscent of European cities, bars with great food, craft pizza spots, vegetarian, and vegan eateries (that aren’t just for vegetarians and vegans), and the storied Reading Terminal Market and Italian Market.

And, of course, cheesesteaks.

Music, Theater & Dance

Renowned for its live music scene, Philadelphia’s vibrant rock, rap, jazz, and pop venues located in neighborhoods across the city showcase the world’s most buzzed-about musicians. That’s not to mention the city’s renowned classical groups, which include The Philadelphia Orchestra, one of the world’s greatest classical music organizations and one of the most prolific recording acts in history.

The Avenue of the Arts, also known as Broad Street, features many of the city’s premier theater and dance venues, while small, intimate spaces devoted to experimental ventures specialize in everything from avant-garde to musicals, recent hit plays to original scripts and classics to children’s theater.

With dozens of professional dance companies and several excellent venues, Philadelphia boasts an internationally renowned modern dance company, a fabulous ballet troupe, and African, hip-hop, tap, salsa, Flamenco, and postmodern ensembles.
