Navigating the Clinical Component
The Medical Director leads clinical care across The Ridge Ohio's full continuum, from medical detox through residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and aftercare.
The role centers on direct patient care, medication management, multidisciplinary leadership, and oversight of the medical team, supported by a 24/7 nurse triage line and an on-site nurse practitioner.

Patient Population
The Ridge maintains a dedicated Professionals Program that works directly with Physician Health Programs and Lawyers Assistance Programs. The Medical Director will treat:
- Physicians, nurses, and other licensed healthcare providers
- Attorneys and executives referred through professional health channels
- Adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions
- Patients undergoing 72-hour evaluations for fitness-for-duty and professional licensure pathways
Clinical Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care
- Conduct admissions, physicals, and initial assessments
- Manage medication-assisted treatment (Suboxone, Vivitrol, Naltrexone, Subutex, Campral)
- Order and review labs, diagnostics, and screenings
- Conduct 1-day and 3-day evaluations for professional patients
- Facilitate outpatient and aftercare appointments
- Review OARRS and monitor for controlled substance misuse
Treatment Team Leadership
- Lead weekly multidisciplinary treatment team meetings
- Oversee treatment planning across all levels of care
- Supervise the on-site nurse practitioner and nursing team
- Collaborate with the contract psychiatrist and psychiatric nurse practitioners on co-occurring mental health treatment
- Coordinate referrals to outside providers and higher levels of care when indicated
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely Kipu documentation
- Ensure adherence to OMHAS, Joint Commission, and federal and state healthcare regulations
- Participate in quality improvement, utilization review, and risk management initiatives
- Report communicable disease data to appropriate authorities
Education and Family Programming
The Medical Department leads weekly family programming lectures every Tuesday from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. The Medical Director:
- Participates in a rotational lecture schedule, with a minimum of two lectures per month
- Provides backup coverage when the Nurse Practitioner or other providers are unavailable
- Contributes to the development of educational content for clients, families, and staff
Therapeutic Programming Available to Patients
The clinical model integrates evidence-based modalities with holistic therapies. The Medical Director provides medical oversight while licensed therapists, counselors, and instructors deliver the following programming:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Psychiatric services for co-occurring disorders
- Family counseling and weekly family lectures
- Music and art therapy
- Recovery nutrition under the direction of an on-site chef
- Exercise therapy and recreation
- Acupuncture
- Yoga and meditation
Outcomes and Aftercare
