Navigating the Clinical Component
As an Otolaryngologist with UCHealth Medical Group, you will be part of an efficient, high-demand practice offering a wide range of ENT services. With a diverse patient population and high surgical volume, your days will be a mix of clinic and OR cases, providing the perfect balance between patient care and procedural work.
Patient Demographics & Case Mix
- Primary patient population: Adults (40–85 years old), with a mix of college-age patients.
- Common cases: High volume of sinus surgeries, thyroid procedures, and cancer-related surgeries.
- Pediatric ENT: Opportunity to perform basic procedures (tubes, tonsillectomies); complex cases are referred to Dr. Jessica Burch in Longmont.
Clinic Workflow & Technology
- Clinic schedule: 2.5–3 days per week, with 18–25 patients per day.
- Patient visit timing: Case-by-case scheduling with flexibility based on patient needs.
- Pre-/post-op patients: 5–6 per day.
- Exam rooms: Six fully equipped exam rooms and two dedicated procedure rooms.
- Advanced Equipment: Digital laryngoscopes, rigid sinus scopes, and four microscopes for precision diagnostics and treatment.
- Integrated EMR System: Epic EMR for seamless documentation and remote access.
- Dedicated Support Staff: Two audiologists, one APP, two MAs, one RN, three front-desk staff, and a surgical coordinator.
Surgical & Procedural Opportunities
- OR schedule: 1.5–2 days per week, performing 3–5 cases per day.
- Procedures: A mix of functional ENT surgeries, including sinus, thyroid, cancer, and select pediatric cases.
- OR Support: Two surgical assistants per case and a private anesthesia team (anesthesiologists & CRNAs).
- Block Time & OR Access:
- Monthly evaluation of OR time for optimization.
- Hospital leadership ensures equipment availability.
- Block time at Poudre Valley Hospital (Level 3 Trauma), Medical Center of the Rockies (Level 1 Trauma), and Harmony Surgery Center (ASC).
- Typical OR Schedule: 7 AM–4 PM.
Call Schedule & Options
- Clinic Call Only: Shared 1:5 among ENT providers for after-hours inquiries.
- Rare After-Hours Phone Calls: Low call volume ensures work-life balance.
- Emergency Cases: Handled by the on-call hospital ENT—no in-person emergencies required.
- Optional Hospital Call:
- Buy-in available for private ENT call group.
- Includes general ENT or facial trauma coverage with paid stipends per shift.
- No hospital call requirement—fully optional based on preference.
