The Gynecologic Oncology team includes five attending physicians, six fellows, and several support staff. The division values teamwork and collaboration, though current staff members have expressed a desire for improved coordination and transparency across multiple sites.
There is a focus on mentoring junior staff, with an emphasis on diversity and supporting career growth, particularly for women in leadership roles.
The division operates in collaboration with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other specialists, ensuring comprehensive care for cancer patients. There is a strong academic focus, with ongoing clinical trials and robust publication output expected from faculty members.
UCI Health gynecologic oncologists are nationally and internationally known for their expertise in treating all gynecologic cancers, including minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery for advanced or recurrent ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancers.
Their expertise has helped to shape surgical practices worldwide through extensive research and authorship in medical education textbooks. UCI physicians were among the first in the region to offer HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy), a unique treatment for eliminating residual ovarian cancer cells after surgery.
